Measures to support accessibility

Jazz Hands For Autism takes the following measures to ensure the accessibility of this website and our programs:

  • Include accessibility as part of our mission statement.
  • Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.
  • Integrate accessibility into our procurement practices.
  • Teach and employ people with ASD.
  • Apply accessibility guidelines to develop our curriculum content.

  • Select and deploy tools that meet accessibility standards.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. They define three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

This website is designed to be compatible with the latest versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge on macOS or Windows. Previous versions of these browsers and operating systems may not meet accessibility guidelines.

Accessibility of this website relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

Page content and navigation remain available with JavaScript turned off. The Accessibility Menu and embedded third-party forms require JavaScript.

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of this website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

  • Third-party content. Our contact form, calendar, application forms, newsletter signup, and donation pages are provided by outside services (Asana, Google, Orbund, Mailchimp, Kindful, and PayPal). We cannot control the accessibility of those services. If you have trouble with any of them, email us and we will help you complete the same task another way.

The following limitations apply to learning materials used in the Jazz Hands Musicians Academy, which students access through their instructors:

  • PDF document accessibility. Some PDF files used for homework assignments do not yet follow accessibility guidelines, because legacy PDF files were not consistently reviewed and adjusted to meet them. As we update our learning materials, we will apply guidelines to make PDF files more accessible. Students who need assistive technology for PDF homework files can contact their instructor directly to request physical printouts.
  • Closed captioning for video content. Some video content used in courses does not yet follow accessibility guidelines for people with hearing disabilities, because legacy videos were created without closed captioning. As we update our learning materials, we will apply guidelines to make video content more accessible. Students who require closed captioning or scripts may request these resources via their instructor.
  • Link verbiage. Some link text within student learning content is not specific enough, because accessibility guidelines were previously not consistently followed during content development. As we update our learning materials, we will apply guidelines to include more accessible link verbiage. Students can request assistance from staff to help them navigate online learning content.
